The well known fifth star was missing in the French classification system in which the highest category is 4-star Luxury. The current system, which allocates stars to French hotels, dates from the 1960s. According to the Secretary of State, the system should be reviewed to fulfill the needs of tourists.
In order to award the hotels, criteria differ from one country to the other. A five-star hotel in Tunisia, for instance, will not have the same standing or the same rates, as a five-star hotel in the US. Yet, some criteria are widespread to select the world luxury hotels.
In France hotels can be oriented to business tourism, others privilege leisure tourists and some are doing both but in luxury hotels you will find the perfect wedding reception hall, for sure!
